Every July, as the city heats up and the sidewalks start to shimmer, I’m faced with the same seasonal question:
What does one wear when the temperature suggests “nudity,” but society insists on “clothing”?
Summer in the city is it own fashion week. There are no runways, just crosswalks; no front rows, just fire escapes, no photographers, just strangers who pretend they weren’t just staring.
But even the most stylish women need a little seasonal cheat sheet.

1. The Slinky Slip Dress
It’s the closest thing to wearing lingerie outside without being arrested. A satin slip isn’t just a dress it’s an attitude. Add strappy sandals, a glossy lip, and suddenly you’re the main character in a 90s music video.
